The Energy Policy Act of 2005
What the Energy Bill Means to You

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT), signed by President Bush on August 8, 2005, offers consumers and businesses federal tax credits beginning in January 2006 for purchasing energy-efficient appliances and products. Most of these tax credits remain in effect through 2007.

About Tax Credits

A tax credit is generally more valuable than an equivalent tax deduction because a tax credit reduces tax dollar-for-dollar, while a deduction only removes a percentage of the tax that is owed.  Beginning in tax year 2006, consumers will be able to itemize purchases on their federal income tax form, which will lower the total amount of tax they owe the government.

Home Energy Efficiency Improvement Tax Credits

Consumers who purchase and install specific products (for a list of products and qualifications visit the U.S. Department of Energy), such as energy-efficient windows, insulation, doors, roofs, and heating and cooling equipment in the home can receive a tax credit of up to $500 beginning in January 2006.
Improvements must be installed in or on the taxpayer’s principal residence in the United States.  Home improvement tax credits apply for improvements made between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007.

Customer Update

Natural gas prices are continuing in the right direction, DOWN. Natural gas prices are less than ½ of the price this same time last year. This translates into additional savings for natural gas users.

Winter is coming and heating/air conditioning contractors are getting extremely busy. Make your conversion appointment early to insure natural gas for the winter season ahead.

Lawn restoration is still to be completed before winter. Our crews will be back in the next couple of weeks to restore any areas left incomplete before.

This is the season to check the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide and smoke detectors.

If you have any questions please contact our office at 1.877.288.1922 or visit the Chautauqua Utilities, Inc. website at www.cuiny.com.

Re:Future Natural gas service

In cooperation with the New York State Public Service Commission (NYS PSC), Chautauqua Utilities, Inc. has enclosed a self-addressed stamped post card. We would ask you to take a moment to check the appropriate box regarding timing that you would intend to begin taking natural gas service from Chautauqua Utilities, Inc. in the Town of North Harmony.

This letter is sent to you because you have filed an application for natural gas service with Chautauqua Utilities, Inc. and CUI has installed the natural gas service line and metering and regulation equipment at your property.

THIS IS ONLY YOUR BEST GUESS.

THIS WILL IN NO WAY OBLIGATE YOU TO TAKE SERVICE.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and should you have any questions please feel free to contact Chautauqua Utilities, Inc. at 1.877.288.1922.
